It is a common complaint that modern isekai is all the same - male power fantasies, harems, OP protagonists, generic fantasy settings and self-insert main characters are something you might think are in every isekai web novel, light novel and anime series that has come out since Sword Art Online first became popular. But is the reputation isekai has for being bland, samey and predictable really deserved? In preparation for my isekai tier list stream, I listed all the isekai anime I have seen (48 of them), and decided to analyze which features of a 'generic SAO clone' they each had. The results are very surprising!
