Why Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is Better Than the Original

Whether you’ve seen it yet or not, you’ve certainly heard about Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. This movie has been getting some serious accolades since it hit theaters in December of 2022. From a whopping 95% score on Rotten Tomatoes to Golden Globe and Oscar nods, the positive press surrounding this film has left many folks wondering what makes a Puss in Boots movie so good. Well, that answer isn’t exactly a simple one. There’s a lot that makes Puss in Boots: The Last Wish the best film of its franchise. This movie is surprisingly deep, and its lovable new cast of characters actually deals with an array of realistic, adult problems. It introduces fans of the Shrek franchise to the best villain it’s ever seen, The Wolf, as well as one of its most memorable sidekicks, Perrito. The film takes Shrek’s love of fairy tale references and borrowed characters and makes it even better, giving classic characters we thought we knew a lot more depth and character development. It also turned what fans have come to expect from the franchise’s animation style on its head, incorporating hand-drawn animation with its classic 3D style to give us a movie with a truly unusual and amazing visual experience. Just because you’ve seen the original Puss in Boots movie definitely doesn’t mean you’ll know what to expect from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. This movie has raised everyone’s expectations of what an animated sequel can do, and it’s certainly got us excited for what this franchise will do next.
